What makes us unique?Our services are unique for a few reasons: 1) We offer pre-booked,1:1, open, honest, personalized telephone conversations. We’re all about bringing a moment of joy, encouragment, support and connection, without the typical obligations, history or judgments that might come with other relationships. Our objective approach means you can open up and just enjoy a respectful, engaging conversation. 2) With our 'set it & forget it' subscription approach, there's no need to be concerned about where you are or where you need to be to enjoy your call. You will receive your call to whatever number you provide and within the time blocks you set. 3) We grow together! As any good friend does, we tailor each conversation to whom we are speaking with and we speak as friends to friends. All conversations are from the heart and our friends are open to sharing as much of themselves as individually comfortable. You can book a call from The Friendly Company every day, once a month or once a year. No matter how much time has passed between calls, our conversations will always pick up on the same friendly note we left on.

Who will I be speaking to? Will it be the same friend every time?When you book a 'Friendly Conversation' you can choose to speak with any friend you'd like. 'Meet Our Friends' to find out more about who is availalble to talk and when. At this time, when subscribing to our weekly 'Friendly Check-In' service, you will not have a choice of who you'll speak with. There is a smaller pool of options but we still do our best to connect you with the right person. As we continue to grow, our goal is to consistently hire and train new friends. We understand everyone is different and our guests will want additional choices or even multiple friends to chat with. It’s also true that not everyone relates to one another the same way. Comfortable connections don’t happen with everyone. The Friendly Company encourages you to connect with different personalities, get alternative perspectives, and enjoy engaging with new people or the same trusted friends. What do you mean by ‘personalized' conversation?At The Friendly Company we don't use templates to narrate our conversations – we speak from our hearts. Like any good friend, we make the effort to remember your kids and grandkids names; that hilarious story about when you were camping in Alberta with your best friend; that you love dogs, but your parents never let you get one – experiences that make you who you are. Our friends are looking forward to getting to know you and giving you the attention you deserve.

What about my privacy and safety during a call?Unlike typical online forums, chat apps and phone lines, our Friends are paid for the services they provide. That means, before speaking to any guest your friend(s) will have already had a thorough reference checks, completed a Canadian criminal record check, and comprehensive in-person (zoom) training. All of our Friends are required to sign a confidenitality & non-disclosure agreement. To further ensure the safety for both our clients and staff we record all our phone calls. These records are solely used by managment to address any potential concerns or service issues. Please feel free to review our full privacy policy located on the bottom of any page.

Cancellations, Missed Calls and Refunds - What if I miss my call?Pursuant to our policy, we will attempt to contact you upto 3 times for your scheduled service. Please be advised that we are unable to process a refund if you miss our attempts to contact you. Friendly Subscription - This service is purchased as a monthly plan. Should you wish to change, cancel or reschedule, we will do our best to accommodate your request. We can not guarantee mid-month changes will be approved but please Contact Us so we can try and find a solution. Friendly Conversation - Should you wish to cancel or reschedule a Friendly Phone Call, please provide 24 hours advance notice. Notice can be provided via our Contact Us page, or you may reply directly to your original e-mail confirmation.

How is this different from professional mental health therapy?We do not offer professional therapy or crisis support. The Friendly Company is not a substitute and should not be used as such for any medical or mental health issues. If you need support in that area, you can find a list of free resources here (link here). If you or someone you know is in immediate danger you should call 911 or visit your local hospital emergency room right away. We do not work with any licensed medical professionals including; psychologists, therapist, social workers, counselors, or any certified health professionals. Our Friends have a positive and empathetic mentality, they are open, honest and offer a thoughtful ear and friendly conversation - our services or the content shared within our service should not be confused with or perceived as definitive medical or life advice. Friends are trained to recognize the talking signs of depression, anxiety, and other worrisome thoughts. When any major issue is disclosed or identified, we will always encourage our guests to seek professional support.

Is there an age restriction to use this service?Anyone over the age of 19 can use our service. We think it's wonderful to speak with adults of all age groups. Different generations typically require different types of communication and touch points. This is something we cover in training with all our Friends and we are prepared to talk to everyone with the same outlook and enthusiasm :)

What is considered inappropriate for discussion?To align with our goal of sharing moments of happiness and a smile, we aim to keep our conversations light-hearted and fun. The following is a list of inappropriate actions that could result in you being barred from our services. Foul and/or aggressive language directed at our employees. Racist commentary, personal insults, rude humour or hurtful comments towards our employees or within the context of conversation. Political commentary. Flirting or conversations of a sexual nature. We are not a dating site. Conversations that knowingly make your Friend uncomfortable

Can I talk to my friends via video chat or meet in person?At this time we do not take video calls. There is a zero tolerance policy for both guests & our friends regarding any offline conversations or in person meetings. Safety for everyone is always a priority. We are focused solely on conversation and we don’t want anyone to worry about anything else.

When would we be obligated to call the police or an emergency contact? Is that something we would do?The Friendly Company is about friends talking to friends and because of this we are not bound by the same laws as regulated health professionals. However, we are a moral & ethical company and will always aim to make the right choices. Our intent is always to keep our conversations light and loving. However, friendships and conversations run their own course and there is no way to know what someone will say next. We have a responsibility to prepare for any scenario and keep our clients and staff safe. If you tell us that you plan on harming yourself or another person, if you discuss a child or minor being at risk of or is currently being physically, sexually, or emotionally abused, we hold the right to disclose that information to the authorities. We have very clear training protocol for reponding to these types of scenarios. That includes providing appropriate resource links and direct call transfers for urgent situations.
